Men’s Golf in Second Place Through Day One of Olivet College Lou Collins Invitational

BATTLE CREEK - The Calvin men’s golf team is in hot pursuit of first place at the Lou Collins Invitational hosted by Olivet College at the Bedford Valley Country Club. On day one of the two-day, 36-hole tournament, Calvin fired a second place team score of 300, just two strokes behind host Olivet which leads the 15-team field with a team score of 298. Junior Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the way for the Knights with a round of 69, tying the Calvin record for lowest score in a round. Freshman Michael Wierenga (Caledonia/South Christian HS) also had a sparkling collegiate debut with a round of 75.

Close behind was junior Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) with a 76 while senior Jake DeBoer (Byron Center/South Christian HS) and sophomore Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) had rounds of 80.Vince Corrango of Madonna had the low score Friday with a round of 68.

Action continues on Saturday morning.
