Men’s Golf Fifth in Final MIAA Standings

KALAMAZOO—The Calvin men’s golf team took sixth at the final MIAA outing of the year but finished fifth in the final MIAA overall standings. Calvin posted a sixth place team score of 329 strokes at Thursday’s outing hosted by Kalamazoo at the Milham Golf Club. Calvin maintained its fifth place position in the final overall standings however, finishing with 2,513 strokes, 23 strokes ahead of sixth place Adrian and 48 strokes behind fourth place Albion.
Olivet captured the overall MIAA title, winning its first league crown since 2002. The Comets finished 25 strokes ahead of runner-up Hope with Trine finishing third.
Trine took first place in Thursday’s MIAA outing with a team score of 305 strokes with Albion and Hope tied for second with scores of 310.
Brock Gleadall of Olivet was Thursday’s medalist with a score of 70.
Calvin’s top finisher on Thursday was was junior Aaron Hargett (Lakewood/Lakewood Lake Odessa HS) with a round of 80. Junior Jon Kuipoer (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was next with an 81. Other Calvin finishers included sophomore Matt Marks (Byron Center/South Christian HS) with an 83, sophomore Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 85 and sophomore Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with an 86.
Hope’s Steve Strock was the overall MIAA medalist, finishing with a season average of 73.0 strokes-per-round.
