Men’s Golf Fifth at Final MIAA Jamboree - Ben Kuiper Claims Overall MIAA Medalist Honors

ADRIAN - Calvin closed out its 2011 MIAA season with a fifth place showing at the eighth and final MIAA Jamboree of the year with a team score of 305 strokes. The MIAA Jamboree was hosted by Adrian on Saturday at the Lenawee Country Club. Calvin finishes in sixth place in the final MIAA overall standings.
A highlight for Calvin on Saturday was the play of junior Ben Kuiper who fired a score of 72 on Saturday to finish in first place in the final MIAA individual standings. In doing so, Kuiper becomes the second MIAA medalist in Calvin men’s golf history and the first since Lloyd Dozeman did so in 1970. Kuiper finished the MIAA season with an average of 74.6 strokes-per-round. Kuiper’s round of 72 on Saturday was good for a tie for fourth place in the Jamboree.
Junior Dave Sarkipato also had a strong final day of competition, tying for 12th with a round of 74. Sarkipato finished 11th in the final MIAA standings with an average of 77.2 strokes-per-round.
Completing Calvin’s finishers on Saturday were freshman Jonathan Cook with a 79, sophomore Mark Allen with an 80 and sophomore Kory Kiefer with an 83.
Pat Wolcott of Trine and Mac Boucher of Adrian shared medalist honors in Saturday’s Jamboree with rounds of 71. Trine took first place as a team with a score of 295. Hope took third at 299 and in doing so, captured the MIAA regular season title by a 19-stroke margin over Trine.
