Men’s Golf Captures Furniture City Classic Title at Quail Ridge Golf Club

CASCADE - Calvin continued its strong spring campaign by taking first place at the Furniture City Classic Wednesday at the Quail Ridge Golf Club. Calvin finished the 36-hole tournament with a team score of 624 strokes, finishing two strokes ahead of second place Davenport. It marks Calvin’s second tournament title of the spring as the Knights also took first place at the Sunshine Invitational during its spring break trip three weeks ago.
Junior Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the way for the Knights by capturing medalist honors with a tournament score of 146. Kuiper blazed through the first 18 holes with a round of 69 and came back with an afternoon round of 77 to finish two over par. Sophomore teammate Jake Hoogstrate (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was close behind, finishing in second place in the final individual standings with a 36-hole total of 150 strokes (74-76) to finish six over par.
Senior Jake DeBoer (Byron Center/South Christian HS) was Calvin’s next finisher at 163 (80-83) while sophomore Mark Allen had a 166 (81-85) and sophomore Ross Ryzenga (Holland/Holland Christian HS) a 187 (83-84).
Calvin returns to action next Monday when it hosts its own Knight Invitational at Pilgrim’s Run Golf Club in Pierson, Michigan. The tournament is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
