Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams Compete at North Central Dr. Keeler Invitational

Dr. Keeler Invitational Results
NAPERVILLE, IL - the Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams closed out competition at the two-day Dr. Keeler Invitational hosted by North Central College Friday night. Over the course of the two days of competition, Calvin produced a number of NCAA III provisional qualifying performances.
On Thursday, Calvin junior Leigha Oberle (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) took first place with a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 143-7. In the women’s 5,000 meters, senior Elizabeth Smit (Kirkland, WA/Bellevue Christian HS) had a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying time of 17:15.20. In the women’s 10,000 meter run, senior Jesi Hale (Gallup, NM/Gallup HS) had an NCAA III provisional qualifying and season-best time of 36:16.03. In fact, the time is the fourth-best 10K time in Calvin women’s track and field history.
Highlights for the Calvin women on Friday included junior Kim Wigboldy (Chandler, AZ/Valley Christian HS) recording a season-best jump of 17-7 1/2 in the long jump and sophomore Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS) and junior Alison Tuuk (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) recording season best times of 4:39.91 and 4:40.58 respectively.
In the women’s 3,000 meter steeplechase, junior Gretchen Braymer (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) had a season-best and NCAA III provisional qualifying time of 10:54.07 while senior Nicole Farr (Wheaton, IL/Warrenville South HS) had a provisional qualifying time of 11:04.76.
On the men’s side, sophomore Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) had an NCAA III provisional qualifying time of 14:39.36 in the 5,000 meters. Senior Joel Klingenberg (Hamilton, ON/Bradenton Christian HS) had an provisional qualifying throw of 192-5 in the javelin. Junior Alex Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View HS) had a provisional qualifying and season-best time of 1:52.96 in the 800 meters.
Calvin’s biggest impact came in the 3,000 meter steeplechase as senior Aaron Goodman (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS) had a provisional qualifying and season-best time of 9:08.53 while junior Ben VanWyk (Sussex, NJ/High Point HS) also had a provisional qualifying time of 9:12.78 in the steeplechase.
Calvin will continue competition tomorrow at the University of Chicago Penultimate Invitational.
