Men’s and Women’s Track and Field Teams Compete at Grand Valley State Open

ALLENDALE—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams were in action on Friday at the Grand Valley State Open and came up with a number of strong performances.
In the women’s meet, sophomore Jordan Gabrielse (Unity Christian HS) was ninth in the 400 meters (1:01.16) in her first collegiate competition. Sophomore Kaitlin Diemer (South Christian HS) had a solid effort in the 800 meters, placing third with a time of 2:19.36. Other top 10 finishes for the Calvin women included junior Gretchen Braymer (Erie, PA) placing third in the 3,000 meters (10:37.99) and sophomore Andrea Beukema (Grand Rapids Christian HS) taking ninth (11:03.89).
In the 5,000 meters, sophomore Anna Van Wyk (South Christian HS) was fourth (19:35.26) and freshman Hannah Kregel (Iowa City, IA) seventh (19:58.37). In the shot put, junior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN) was seventh (40-6 3/4).
In the men’s meet, freshman Daniel McElheny (Grand Rapids Christian HS) won the 600 meters with a time of 1:25.57. Other top 10 finishes for the Calvin men included junior Alex Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN) placing seventh in the mile run (4:16.75), sophomore Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN) placing third (8:37.59), senior Aaron Goodman (Milwaukee, WI) placing fifth (8:38.84), freshman Matt VanderRoest (Ann Arbor Huron HS) placing seventh (8:41.20) and senior George Visser (Winfield, IL) placing 10th (8:53.56) in the 3,000 meter run. In addition, junior Jake Christiansen (New Ipswich, NH) was second (15:19.87), sophomore Rhett Morici (St. Charles, IL) )third (15:21.94), junior Jake Baker (South Christian HS) fifth (15:44.54), senior Kyle Mast (Holland Christian HS) seventh (16:03.36) and freshman David VandeBunte (Byron Center HS) eighth (16:09.77) in the 5,000 meter run.
In the high jump, senior Caleb Rottman (Fargo, ND) was tied for fifth (6-3 1/4).
Both Calvin teams return to action on February 12 and 13 when they compete at the Grand Valley State Big Meet in Allendale.
