Melissa Oosterhouse to Face Thavindra Ekanayake of Trinity University in NCAA III Singles Tourney

Calvin College senior Melissa Oosterhouse has received her first round draw for the NCAA III Singles Tournament which gets underway Friday morning in Claremont, California. Oosterhouse will face Thavindra Ekanayake of Trinity University of Texas in a 9 a.m. (PCT) first round match. The winner of the match will advance to the Round of 16 for a 1 p.m. match against the winner of a first round matchup between Kristin Alotta of of Williams College and Kate Stanford of Sewanee The University of the South.

In the final NCAA III Regional singles rankings, Oosterhouse was ranked seventh in the Central Region while Ekanayake was ranked seventh in the West Region. Ekanayake is a first-time NCAA Women’s Singles participant. She won the ITA regional title in 2009 to earn ITA All-America honors. Oosterhouse is making her second straight appearance at the NCAA III Singles Tournament. She was defeated in the first round a year ago by defending national champion Lorne McManigle.
