Melissa Oosterhouse Selected to Compete in NCAA III Singles Tournament
Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Calvin College senior Melissa Oosterhouse will return to the NCAA III Singles Tournament. On Wednesday night, Oosterhouse was extended a bid to the 2011 NCAA III Singles Tournament, scheduled for May 27-29 at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in Claremont, California. A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Oosterhouse will be one of 32 singles players competing in the single-elimination tournament. The selection of individuals for the championships is based on won-lost record, strength of schedule and eligibility and availability of student-athletes.
A year ago, Oosterhouse became the first individual in Calvin women’s tennis history to receive a bid to the NCAA III Singles Tournament. Oosterhouse drew a first-round seed against defending NCAA III singles champion Lorne McManigle of Emory University 6-4, 6-2.
Oosterhouse will carry a 2011 singles record into the NCAA III Singles Tournament of 18-1. Last month, Oosterhouse was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player for the second straight year and was named to the All-MIAA first team for a fourth straight spring.
