Megan Rietema Named MIAA Specialty Player of Week in Volleyball

ROYAL OAK, Mich.  The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin’s Megan Rietema its Specialty Player of the Week in volleyball for matches played through September 1.

Rietema, a senior from Grand Rapids (Grand Rapids Christian HS), had 32 kills and dished out 136 assists (9.1 per set) in earning tournament Most Valuable Player honors in leading the Knights to the championship of a tournament at Puget Sound, Wash. She added 41 digs and 13 blocks in the four matches.

Rietema had 12 kills and 32 assists in a four-set win over Wartburg, Iowa, and nine kills, 42 assists and 14 digs as Calvin rallied from a two-sets-to-none deficit to defeat Pacific Lutheran, Wash., in five sets. It is the ninth time she has been named MIAA Specialty Player of the Week in her career.

Calvin is back in action on Tuesday night when it hosts Albion at 6:30 p.m. in the MIAA opener for both teams.
