Matt VanderRoest & Jodi Hoekstra Receive MIAA Runner of the Week Honors in Cross Country

ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin runners Matt Vander Roest and Jodi Hoekstra its Runners of the Week in cross country for meets through September 24. A junior from Ann Arbor (Huron HS), 
Vander Roest took first place at the MIAA Jamboree at Trine’s Zollner Golf Course Saturday with a time of 26:01. Vander Roest finished eight seconds ahead of his nearest competitor as he helped lead Calvin to a first-place finish in the men’s meet with 16 points. Saturday’s victory also marked the first time that Vander Roest has taken first place in a collegiate cross country competition.
A senior from Homer Glen, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), Hoekstra took first place at the MIAA Jamboree on Saturday at Trine with a time of 22:52, finishing 28 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Hoekstra helped lead Calvin to a first-place finish in the women’s meet with 27 points as the Knights placed five runners in the top 10. Hoekstra has now won her last two races.
