Calvin College assistant volleyball coach Laura Bindon has been selected as a recipient of the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s yearly Thirty-Under-30 Award. The award recognizes 30 of the up-and-coming volleyball coaches under 30 years old in the sport at all levels of the game. A native of Holland and a graduate of Holland Christian High School, Bindon has been an assistant coach at Calvin for seven years. She also graduated from Calvin in 2003 and was a first team All-MIAA selection in volleyball as a senior in 2002. In addition to her duties as an assistant volleyball coach, Bindon also serves Calvin as the assistant director of athletics and as an instructor in Calvin’s HPERDS department.
Calvin Head Volleyball Coach Amber Warners on Laura Bindon: “Laura brings signicant experience to our program with an expertise in physical training,” said Warners. “She has become a coach who I trust with all areas of our program—the physical training, leading practices, game strategy and in personnel evaluation to mention just a few. We are very fortunate to have someone like Laura be a part of our program.”
Calvin Director of Women’s Athletics Dr. Nancy Meyer on Laura Bindon:: “Laura has been a God-send for Jim and me,” said Meyer. “She is very meticulous and detail-oriented. She has been very involved in the budget side of management, whether it is in accounting for team expenses or assisting in the completion of MIAA or NCAA reports. She also has done a great job with our Student Athlete Advisory Committee. Laura is a gifted teacher, coach, and administrator. Her recent award from the AVCA is so well-deserved. We’re very happy for her as a recipient.”
Calvin Director of Men’s Athletics Dr. Jim Timmer on Laura Bindon: “Laura’s love and enthusiasm for Calvin are huge assets to our department,” said Timmer. “We are very grateful to have her in the many roles she fills for us.”
