ADA, OH—A late goal spelled defeat for the Calvin men’s soccer team Friday afternoon as the Knights dropped a 2-1 decision to nationally-ranked Baldwin-Wallace at the OAC/MIAA Shootout hosted by Ohio Northern.
Ranked 16th nationally, Baldwin-Wallace (6-0) scored the game-winning goal with just 6:02 left in regulation. Calvin (2-3) nearly tied the game off a corner kick play but a point blank shot by sophomore Chad Hart (South Christian HS) was cleared off the back line by a Baldwin-Wallace defender.
Baldwin-Wallace took a 1-0 lead on a goal by Cory Kovach in the 54th minute of play. The Knights were able to tie the game in the 74th minute on an own goal as a Yellow Jacket defender deflected the ball into his own net.
The game-winning goal was then scored by Carlin Vandendriessche on a through ball pass from Mitch Keidan.
Both teams finished with 10 shots at goal with Calvin senior goalkeeper Darin Cline (Grandville HS) collecting three saves.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it faces host Ohio Northern at 3:00 p.m.
