GAMBIER, OH—For the third straight meeting, a Calvin-Kenyon matchup was decided by one goal. On Saturday, ninth-ranked Calvin nipped Kenyon 1-0 on a penalty kick by junior Emily Ottenhoff (Palos Heights, IL/Chicago Christian HS) with just 3:46 left in regulation. Ottenhoff now has four game-winning goals this year including two by way of penalty kick.

Calvin and Kenyon have now met three straight years with Calvin winning 1-0 in Grand Rapids in 2006 and Kenyon winning 2-1 a year ago in Gambier.

Ottenhoff’s goal was her team-leading seventh tally of the year. The penalty kick was awarded when Calvin sophomore Elaine Schnabel (Chesterton, IN/Chesterton HS) was hauled down in the Kenyon penalty box.

Calvin held a 16-8 shots at goal advantage with junior Alyssa Bergsma (Walker/Calvin Christian HS) posting five saves to record the shutout victory for the Knights.

Now 7-2-1 on the year, Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts league-leading Alma College at 4:00 p.m. at Calvin’s Zuidema Field.
