Monday, October 11, 2010
For the first time in his career, Calvin College junior Justin Ahearne has been named MIAA Offensive Player of the Week in men’s soccer. Ahearne, a junior from Hudsonville (Hudsonville HS) had a dominating week on both offense and defense in leading Calvin to a pair of victories that propelled the Knights into first place in the MIAA race. He had one goal in a 2-0 victory over Alma, then in a Saturday game against Albion, he scored three goals in the game’s first 13 minutes as the Knights were victorious 7-0.
Calvin returns to action on Tuesday when it travels to Trine for a key conference match slated to start at 4 p.m. Calvin is currently 10-1-1 overall and 4-1-1 in league play, one point ahead of second place Adrian, Kalamazoo and Trine.
Ahearne is the second individual from Calvin to earn weekly honors from the MIAA as teammate Lucas Wilgenburg was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week earlier this fall.
