Jim Deters Update

Former Calvin College baseball standout Jim Deters had his best pitching performance of his 2008 professional season Thursday evening. A 2005 Calvin College graduate, Deters is again pitching with the Kinston Indians located in Kinston, North Carolina. Kinston is an advanced Class A affiiate of the Cleveland Indians.

Also a graduate of Kalamazoo Christian High School, Deters tossed a complete-game three-hit shutout Thursday evening in a 2-0 victory over the Wilmington…Deters struck out five and did not walk a batter in the nine inning affair. Deters (3-2) turned 25 on Wednesday, it was his wife’s 24th birthday today. It was the third spot start of the year for Deters, who has made the majority of his 17 appearances from the bullpen.

The pitching performance lowered the season earned run average for Deters to 3.20. He has 26 batters and walked just nine in 45.0 innings of work this year.
