Wednesday, May 11, 2011
Calvin College senior Jess Hendriksma has been named to the Division III Ping Great Lakes All-Region team by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
A native of Grand Rapids and a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School, Hendriksma has played in the number-one spot throughout the 2010-11 season for the Calvin men’s golf team, helping lead the Knights to their first-ever MIAA title and first-ever berth in the NCAA III Tournament.
During the MIAA season, Hendriksma took second in the final individual conference standings with an average of 74.5 strokes-per-round, ranking as the second-best single-season MIAA average in Calvin men’s golf history. At the conclusion of the MIAA season, Hendriksma was named to the All-MIAA first team.
This spring, Hendriksma continued his strong play, earning a spot on the all-tournament team at the Vic Cuiss Invitational last month while also earning co-medalist honors at the Hope/Calvin Wooden Shoes Challenge. At the Knight Invitational on April 26 hosted by Calvin, Hendriksma took second individually with a round of 73.
At the NCAA III Tournament this week, Hendriksma was Calvin’s top golfer, finishing…over par in 36 holes of play. Hendriksma opened NCAA III Tournament play with a first round score of 77 and came back with a even par round of 72 today.
Hendriksma is the second individual from Calvin to earn Ping All-Region honors over the last two years as former teammate Jon Kuiper was a Ping All-Region choice last spring. Like Hendriksma, Kuiper is also a graduate of Grand Rapids Christian High School.
