NSCAA Division III Women's Soccer All-America Teams

Calvin College senior Carly Prins has joined a select group of Calvin women’s soccer players. On Wednesday, the forward out of of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School was named a third team Divison III All-American by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

A native of Hudsonville, Prins becomes the fifth individual in Calvin women’s soccer history to be named an NSCAA Division III All-American with Tara Dyk (1997 & 1998), Amber Wiersma (1997), Jill Capel (2006) and Emily Ottenhoff (2009) previously receiving the honor as Calvin players.

The All-America award is well-deserved according to Calvin head women’s soccer coach Mark Recker. “This is a tremendous honor for Carly and it is well deserved,” said Recker. “She is a high caliber player who really drove our team this fall. In my 10 years of collegiate coaching, I’ve never coached a player who is better in the air with the ball. Carly was always a threat to score on any balls served in the air and she was also an outstanding distributor of the ball when she was double and even triple-teamed. The most impressive thing about Carly is that she is just a quality individual. She has been well-respected by her teammates during her career and I know they are very happy to see her receive this honor.”

This past fall, Prins led Calvin in scoring with 12 goals, two assists and 26 points. She finished her career with 39 goals, 18 assists and 96 points, ranking 10th on the Calvin career list for goals, 12th on the Calvin career list in points and 14th on the Calvin career list in assists. Of her 39 career goals, 12 were game-winners.

Earlier this fall, she was named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Player and landed a spot on the All-MIAA first team for the fourth straight year. She is one of 12 individuals in MIAA women’s soccer history to receive All-MIAA first team honors four consecutive years. Also a strong student, Prins was named to the ESPN Academic All-District IV third team this fall while majoring in physical education and minoring in health education.

During the course of her career, Prins was a part of three MIAA championship teams, two teams that captured the MIAA Tournament and four teams that reached the NCAA III Tournament. During her career, Calvin teams posted an overall won-loss record of 64-13-9.

The Calvin women’s soccer team finished 15-3-2 overall this year, reaching the NCAA III Tournament for the sixth consecutive year. The Knights earned another trip to the NCAA III Tournament by winning the MIAA Tournament title, defeating Alma 3-1 in the tournament final. The Knights finished 20th in the final d3soccer.com Top 25 poll.
