A native of Hudsonville and a graduate of Hudsonville Unity Christian High School, Vegter scored five goals and added one assist last week in leading Calvin to victories over Adrian and Olivet.
in a 5-1 win over Adrian, he scored two goals along with one assist. He then netted a hat trick on Saturday, scoring all three of Calvin’s goals in a 3-2 sudden-death overtime win. The hat-trick performance was his second of the year. He has now scored in five consecutive games.
A striker, Vegter currently has 23 goals and three assists on the year for 49 points. His goal total matches the second-highest single-season total in Calvin men’s soccer history.
He is currently ranked third in NCAA III men’s soccer in total goals scored, second in goals-per-game average (1.53) and second in points-per-game average (3.27).
Calvin is back in action tonight when it travels to Kalamazoo for a 7 p.m. conference game.
Vegter is the third Calvin athlete this fall to receive national player of the week honors. Earlier this fall, Calvin freshman Cassice Vince was named the Division III national athlete of the week in women’s cross country and two weeks ago, Calvin sophomore Maggie Kamp was named the Division III national player of the week in volleyball.
