ROYAL OAK, Mich.  – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin defender Kelsey Hiegel its Defensive Player of the Week in women’s soccer for games played through Sept. 8. Hiegel, a sophomore from Mundelein, Ill. (Mundelein HS), spearheaded a Calvin defense that allowed only one goal in winning two overtime games at a weekend tournament at Milwaukee School of Engineering. She was named the tournament’s most outstanding defensive player as the Knights edged Loras, Iowa, 1-0, and North Park, Ill., 2-1. Hiegel is being honored as Player of the Week for the first time in her career. Calvin is back in action today, traveling to Alma for a 4 p.m. conference match.
