Calvin’s Joe Broekhuizen Has Successful Pro Soccer Debut with Dayton Dutch Lions FC
Sunday, April 21, 2013
Calvin College men’s soccer alumn Joe Broekhuizen had a successful professional soccer debut for the Dayton Dutch Lions Football Club Saturday night. In the season opener Saturday against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds, Broekhuizen was a late substitute and promptly delivered an assist on the game-winning goal off a corner kick. The winning goal came in stoppage time and lifted Dayton to a 2-1 victory.
Even more notable about the win is that Dayton played a man down for nearly 60 minutes as one of its players was issued a red card in the 28th minute of play.
