Calvin Women’s XC Team Ranked Fifth/Men’s XC Team Ranked Eighth in Pre-Season National Polls

The Division III Top 35 National Poll conducted by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association has been released and both Calvin teams are ranked in the top 10. On the women’s side, Calvin is ranked fifth. On the men’s side, Calvin is ranked eighth.
In the women’s poll, Wisconsin-Eau Claire is the top-ranked team, having received all eight first place votes. St. Lawrence (NY) is ranked second followed by Middlebury (VT) in third, Washington University (MO) in fourth and Calvin in fifth. Hope College is ranked 18th and along with Calvin, are part of six teams from the Great Lakes Region ranked in the Top 35 as Oberlin (OH) is ranked 21st, Case Western Reserve (OH) ranked 23rd, Baldwin-Wallace (OH) ranked 29th and DePauw (IN) ranked 34th.
On the men’s side, Washington University (MO) is the top ranked team, receiving four first place votes. Defending national champion North Central is ranked second with the Cardinals receiving three first place votes. Allegheny (PA) received one first place vote and is ranked third. Calvin (#8) is one of four men’s teams from the Great Lakes Region ranked in the Top 35 as Mount Union (OH) is ranked 21st, Heidelberg (OH) ranked 24th and Manchester (IN) ranked 29th.
Both Calvin teams are scheduled to open their seasons on September 18 when they host the Calvin Invitational at the Gainey Athletic Complex.
Calvin currently has five fall sports teams nationally ranked including four in the top 10. Calvin’s men’s soccer team is currently ranked second nationally while its women’s volleyball team is ranked ninth and its women’s soccer team ranked 15th.
