AVCA Division III Pre-Season Top 25 Poll

The Calvin women’s volleyball team is ranked ninth in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 pre-season poll. The Knights were ranked 11th in the final AVCA Division III Top 25 poll last November.

Led by head coach Amber Warners, Calvin returns four starters from its team that posted a 28-7 record, captured the MIAA Tournament title and reached the second round of the NCAA III Tournament a year ago.

Returning starters include 2009 first team All-America selection Rebecca Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS), 2009 Great Lakes Regional Freshman of the Year selection Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) and 2009 All-MIAA second team selections Erin VanderPlas (Cadillac, MI/McBain Christian HS) and Renee DeHaan (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS).

Calvin is one of two MIAA schools ranked in the top 10 of the AVCA pre-season Top 25 poll as defending MIAA regular season champion Hope is ranked fourth. Defending national champion Washington University of St. Louis is the pre-season number-one followed by Juniata (PA) in second and Emory (GA) in third.

In addition to Hope, Calvin will face three other opponents during the regular season that are ranked in the AVCA pre-season Top 25. Calvin will face Ohio Northern (10th), Wittenberg (11th) and Heidelberg (23rd),
