Calvin Women’s Swimming and Diving Team Picks Up Dual Meet Victory at Saint Mary’s

NOTRE DAME, IN - The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team picked up a 179-113 dual meet victory at Saint Mary’s Friday night. The Calvin women are now 3-3 in dual meet action this year including 3-0 against MIAA competition.
Calvin’s divers highlighted the dual meet with strong performances in both the one and three-meter boards. On the one-meter board, sophomore Sam Klaasen (Holland/Holland Christian HS) took first place with a season-best and NCAA III qualifying score of 262.04. She was part of a 1-2-3 Calvin finish as freshman Elise Kaufman (Sugerland, TX/Sugarland HS) was second (247.27) and senior Carmen Brummel (West Olivet/Unity Christian HS) third (242.84). On the three-meter board, Kaufman took first place (246.59) while Klaasen was second (245.03) and Brummel third (227.48).
Senior Monica Bressler (Sandusky, OH/Perkins HS) was a double-winner Friday, taking first place in the 50 freestyle (25.30) and 200 backstroke (2:15.49). Other individual winners for the Calvin men included sophomore Elizabeth Counsell (Indianapolis, IN/Heritage Christian HS) in the 200 freestyle (2:01.90) and senior Caitlin Alexander (Holland/Holland Christian HS) in the 200 butterfly (2:23.44).
Calvin’s 200 medley relay team of Bressler, Counsell, Alexander and freshman Maria Sedjo (West Chicago, IL/Home Schooled) took first place in a time of 1:53.36 while the Calvin quartet of senior Kendra Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead HS), junior Brianna Seaks (East Lansing/Okemos HS) and sophomore Rachel Colasurdo (Chesapeake, VA/Home Schooled) took first place in a time of 3:48.68.
Calvin returns to action on Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo at 1 p.m. at Calvin’s Venema Aquatic Center.
