Calvin Women’s Lacrosse Picked to Finish Third in MIAA Preseason Coaches’ Poll

The first-ever MIAA preseason coaches’ poll for women’s lacrosse has been announced and Calvin has been picked to finish third in the seven-team league. Adrian is the preseason favorite, receiving six first place votes while Hope received one first place vote and was picked to finish second. Coaches could not vote for their own teams.
Alma was picked to finish fourth behind Calvin with Olivet fifth, Trine sixth and Albion seventh.
Calvin will be embarking on its first season of varsity competition this spring. The top four teams in the final MIAA regular season standings will qualify for the four-team MIAA Tournament. The winner of the MIAA Tournament will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA III Tournament.
The MIAA is expected to increase its league size for women’s lacrosse to nine schools next year as Kalamazoo and Saint Mary’s have announced that they will be moving their club women’s teams to varsity status for the 2013-14 academic year.
Calvin is scheduled to open its season on March 7 at Davenport University at 4 p.m.. Calvin’s first MIAA match is scheduled for April 6 at Adrian.
