Friday, February 14, 2014
The United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association has named its 2014 All-Academic team and individual recipients in women’s cross country and the Calvin women’s cross country team has received accolades on both counts.
Continuing a streak that began in 1987, the Calvin women’s cross country team has once again been named a USTFCCCA All-Academic team recipient. Led by head coach Brian Diemer, the Knights posted a team cumulative grade point average this past fall of 3.53. In order to receive the award, teams must post a minimum team GPA of 3.10.
Individually, Calvin had six members of its women’s cross country team receive individual all-academic honors. Individuals needed to have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 or greater through the most-recent semester and placed in the top 35 at the NCAA III Regional Championships.
The Calvin individuals that received the honor include seniors Alyssa Oram (Cheboygan, Mich.), Nicole Michmerhuizen (Holland/Holland Christian HS), juniors Kimby Penning (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), Sarah Danner (Watkins Glen, NY/Charles Dickerson HS), Kate Ardinger (Elmhurst, IL/Timothy Christian HS), and freshman Cassie Vince (Amherst, OH/Amherst HS).
