Calvin Volleyball Takes Two in Tournament at Capital University

BEXLEY, OH - Playing in the south suburbs of Columbus, Calvin claimed a pair of victories at a tournament co-hosted by Capital University Friday. The Knights opened with a 25-23, 25-19, 25-12 victory over Transylvania University and then came back to top host Capital 25-18, 25-16, 25-15 in the evening.
Sophomore Emily Crowe (Granger, IN/Mishiwahka Penn HS)led the Knights in victory over Transylvania scoring seven kills in 13 attempts while also helping on the defensive side of the net recording five block assists. Senior Lizzie Kamp (Orland Park, IL/Chicago Christian HS) added six kills and five digs. Junior setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian) dished out 24 assists while recording six blocks.
In the win over Capital, third-ranked Calvin received 16 kills from senior Lizzie Kamp, who recorded an attack percentage of .500. Junior setter Megan Rietema added 31 assists and 14 digs while senior libero Kelly Gordon (South Christian HS) had 19 digs. 16 Calvin players played in the win over Capital.
“We are a better team tonight than we were at the start of the day,” Calvin head coach Amber Warners said. “We have lots of things to work on, but I’m very encouraged with the start and looking forward to tomorrow.”
Calvin will now travel to the northern suburbs of Columbus on Saturday to compete at Otterbein University. The Knights will face Mount Union Saturday morning and co-host Otterbein later Saturday afternoon.
