Calvin Track & Field Teams Open Indoor Campaigns at Mike Lints Alumni Open at GVSU

ALLENDALE—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their indoor campaigns on Friday night at the Mike Lints Alumni Invitational hosted by Grand Valley State University.
On the men’s side, Calvin’s distance contingent posted several sterling efforts led by sophomre Nick Kramer who won the 5,000 meter run with an NCAA III (indoor) provisional qualifying time of 14:51.21. Kramer was one of five Calvin runners in the top seven with sophomore Matt Vander Roest second (15:11.6), senior Aaron Goodman fourth (15:21.6), senior Tim Langenberg sixth (15:24.0) and sophomore Dan Kerr seventh (15:24.40).
In the men’s mile run, senior Jed Christiansen just missed an NCAA III provisional qualifying performance, finishing second with a time of 4:16.53. In the 3,000 meters, senior George Visser was second with a time of 8:56.75.
Other notable performances include senior Kelby McClelland finishing fourth in the 60 meter hurdles (8.50) and junior Karl Farlk taking eighth in the weight throw (45-10.75).
On the women’s side, junior Rachel Boerner led the way with a third place time of 57.50 in the 400 meters. Senior Katie Roelofs was also seventh in the race (59.90). In the distance events, senior Liz Smit was sixth in the 3,000 meters (10:17.16) while senior Jessica Koster won the 5,000 meters with a time of 17:50.60.
Both teams return to action next Friday when it competes at the Eubanks Open hosted by Grand Valley State.
