Calvin Track & Field Athletes Compete at Aquinas College Twilight Invitational

A group of Calvin track and field athletes from both the men’s and women’s teams competed at the Aquinas Twilight Invitational on Wednesday afternoon at Houseman Field. The Knights recorded many notable performances and several of them came up with season best efforts.
A highlight from the women’s team came from senior Kim Wigboldy who threw a season best and NCAA III provisional qualifying distance of 128-9 in the javelin. Wigboldy also jumped 16-11 in the long jump.
The Calvin women had an impressive showing in the 800 meters, finishing second, third, and fourth with freshman Olivia Butler leading the charge with a season-best time of 2:16.85. In the discus, senior Sarah Reasoner threw a season-best and NCAA III automatic qualifying effort of 151-10 while also winning the shot put with a throw of 45-11 1/4. In the sprints, freshman Julie Busscher recorded a time of of 12.75 in the 100 meters, and a season-best time of 26.06 in the 200 meters.
Freshman Hillary Banning won the triple jump with a hop-skip-and-jump of 35-4.
For the men, Freshman Evert Geerlings had an excellent performance in the pole vault with a personal record of 14-3 ¼. Freshman Matt Christians jumped 6-5 in the high jump.
