Calvin Track and Field Teams Compete at MIAA Invitational Hosted by Trine University

ANGOLA, IN—The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the Trine Indoor Track and Field Invitational on Saturday. In the men’s competition, Calvin took first with 139.5 points, 29.5 points ahead of Hope. In the women’s competition, Calvin rolled up a first place total of 199 points, 71 points ahead of Hope.
A highlight for the Calvin women came in the 400 meter dash as junior Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ) clocked an NCAA III (indoor) provisional qualifying time of 57.83. Junior Kim Wigboldy (Chandler, AZ) also had a big day, winning the long jump (16-4 1/2) and placing second in the 60 meter hurdles (9.79).
In the women’s shot put, junior Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN) had an NCAA III provisional qualifying throw of 42-5 1/2. Other individual winners for the Calvin women included senior Jesi Hale (Gallup, NM) in the 5,000 meter run (17:55.38), junior Rebekah Van Dyk (Bellflower, CA) in the high jump (5-1 3/4), senior Joy Leach (Charlottsville, VA) in the pole vault (11-3), and sophomore Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN) in the triple jump (34-4).
Calvin also swept all three relays with its 4x200 meter relay of junior Katie Roelofs (Grand Rapids, Mich.), sophomore Jordan Gabrielse (Unity Christian HS), Wigboldy and Peterson winning in a time of 1:50.24, its 4x400 meter relay of Gabrielse, Roelofs, junior Kristen Fletcher (Fort Wayne, IN) and junior Alison Tuuk (Grand Rapids Christian HS) winning in a time of 4:06.76 and its distance medley relay team of senior Nicole Farr (Wheaton, IL), Borener, sophomore Kaitlin Diemer (South Christian HS) and senior Liz Smit (Kirkland, WA) winning with an NCAA III indoor provisional qualifying time of 12:13.95.
In the men’s competition, senior Aaron Goodman (Milwaukee, WI) led a 1-2-3 Calvin finish in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 15:24.50 while sophomore Dan Kerr (Petoskey HS) was second (15:25.00) and senior Tim Langenberg (Grand Ledge HS) third (15:26.46). Senior Caleb Rottman (Fargo, ND) also had a big afternoon, winning the high jump with a career-best leap of 6-6 while finishing second in thye 60 meter hurdles (8.72).
In the mile run, Calvin took three of the top four spots led by sophomore Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN) who was first in a time of 4:23.95 followed by junior Ben Van Wyk (Sussex, NJ) in third (4:31.34) and senior George Visser (Winfield, L) in fourth (4:32.17).
Calvin’s distance medley relay team of senior Nate DeHaan (South Christian HS), sophomore Carson Sterchi (Crystal Lake, IL), junior Alex Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN) and senior Jed Christiansen (Greenville, PA) took first place with a time of 10:16.12.
