Calvin Track and Field Athletes Receive MIAA Athlete of the Week Awards

ROYAL OAK, Mich. Ė For the first time in its history, the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association is recognizing outstanding athletes in track and field with its Athlete of the Week award.
The MIAA has announced its first recipients of those awards for the 2012 season. Each week, the conference will name an outstanding performer in track events and field events.
For the week of March 17, Calvinís Nick Kramer is menís Track Athlete of the Week, while the Knightsí Jodi Hoekstra is womenís Track Athlete of the Week. Calvinís Aaron Meckes is the menís Field Athlete of the Week, while Hilary Banning of the Knights is womenís Field Athlete of the Week.
Kramer, a senior from Dyer, Ind. (Illiana Christian HS), led a Calvin sweep of the first three places in the menís 10,000 meters at the Rhodes, Tenn., Open, as he ran a time of 30:16.42.
Hoekstra, a senior from Homer Glen, Ill. (Chicago Christian HS), won the womenís 10,000 meters at the Rhodes Open with a time of 37:01.90.
Meckes, a junior from Bay City (Saginaw Valley Lutheran HS), won the menís shot put at the Rhodes Open with a toss of 50 feet, 4 inches, and finished second in the discus with a throw of 150 feet, 5 inches.
Banning, a sophomore from Whitinsville, Mass. (Whitinsville Christian HS), placed third in the womenís triple jump at the Rhodes Open with a jump of 34 feet, 11-3/4 inches.
