Calvin Swimming & Diving Teams Defeat Albion - Andrew Krafft Sets Another Record

The Calvin menís and womenís swimming and diving teams picked up MIAA dual meet victories over Albion Saturday afternoon at the Venema Aquatic Center. In the womenís meet, Calvin claimed a 128-98 victory. In the menís meet, Calvin won by a score of 140-77. The Calvin womenís team is now 6-2 in dual meet action this year while the Calvin men are 4-3.

In the menís competition, Calvin sophomore diver Andrew Krafft was a double-winner, claiming first place on the one-meter (344.95) and three-meter boards (343.35). His score on the one-meter board was a new Calvin record, marking the second time this month that he has re-established his own school mark (six dives).

Other winners for the Calvin men included freshman Alex Baumann in the 1,000 freestyle (10:33.97), freshman Travis Vincent in the 200 freestyle (1:50.11), sophomore Andrew Mitchell in the 200 IM (2:07.26), senior Ross Battoclette in the 100 butterfly (54.89), junior Mark Rushlow in the 100 backstroke (55.42) and freshman Andrew Vanderlei in the 100 breaststroke (1:01.93). Calvinís 800 freestyle relay of sophomore Peter Johnson, Baumann, junior Devin Heitz and freshman Ben Keller also won with a time of 7:36.10. Calvinís 400 medley relay team of junior Sam Allison, VanderLei, junior Mathias Bares and junior David Doud won with a time of 4:18.55.

In the womenís meet, junior diver Samantha Klaasen was a double-winner, taking first on the one-meter board (272.90) and three-meter board (251.65). Other individual winners for the Knights included junior Rachel Colasurdo in the 200 freestyle (2:01.72), junior Stephanie Fox in the 50 freestyle (25.79), freshman Erika Waugh in the 200 IM (2:21.93), junior Shelby Cloyd in the 100 freestyle (56.60), freshman Alexi Scott in the 100 backstroke (1:02.35) and sophomore Maria Sedjo in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.02).

Calvinís 400 medley relay team of Alexi Scott, Colasurdo, Fox and sophomore Claire Strunk won with a time of 4:18.55 while its 800 freestyle relay team of senior Bridgett Scott, Cloyd, senior Brianna Seaks and Strunks won with a time of 8:26.04.

Both Calvin teams close out their dual meet campaigns next Saturday, hosting Olivet at 1 p.m.
