Calvin Swimming and Diving Teams Capture Dual Meets at Albion

ALBION - The Calvin men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams captured MIAA dual meets at Albion Saturday with the Calvin men defeating the Albion men’s team 158-133 and the Calvin women defeating the Albion women’s team 190-108. The Calvin men are now 1-1 in dual meet action this year while the Calvin women are 2-1.
In the women’s meet, Calvin received first place performances from the following individuals:
*Sophomore Michaela Rookus (Hudsonville/Hudsonville HS) in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.68) , 200 breaststroke (2:32.43) and 200 IM (2:15.84).
*Sophomore Lizz Roth (Brighton/Brighton HS) on the one-meter board (222.70).
*Senior Margaret Rechel (Worthington, OH/Thomas Worthington HS) in the 100 freestyle (57.16).
*Junior Erika Waugh (Berne, IN/South Adams HS) in the 200 backstroke (2:14.33)
*Senior Kristen Kinzer (Fort Wayne, IN/Homestead HS) in the 100 butterfly (1:04.07).
*Sophomore Alayna Gallegos (Lakeville, MN/Lakeville HS) in the 200 butterfly (2:18.06).
*Junior Rebecca Mumby (Spring Lake/Spring Lake HS) on the three-meter diving board (205.55).
*Calvin’s 200 medley relay team of Waugh, junior Lexi Scott (Richmond, IN/Richmond HS), Kinzer and Rookus also won in a time of 1:55.40 while its 400 medley relay team of junior Alex Dhaenens (Howell/Howell HS), freshman Adrienne Wesselius (Sioux Center, IA/Unity Christian HS), junior Betsy Otten (Shebogyan, WI/Sheboygan County Christian HS) and Rechel won in a time of 3:49.80.
In the men’s competition, Calvin received first place performances from the following individuals:
*Sophomore Aaron Venema (Grand Haven/Grand Haven HS) in the 1,000 freestyle (10:10.04) and 500 freestyle (4:54.35).
*Sophomore Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon HS) in the 100 breaststroke (58.83) and 200 breaststroke (2:12.46).
*Freshman Brett Stoughton (Centerville, IN/Centernville HS) in the 200 butterfly (2:03.87), 100 butterfly (54.60) and 200 IM (2:02.57).
*Freshman Dirk Tanis (Holland/Holland Christian HS) on the one-meter (197.10) and three-meter (154.40) diving boards.
*Calvin’s 200 medley relay team of Stoughton, Cochran, senior Peter Johnson (Oak Forest, IL/Home Schooled) and sophomore Mitch Schroder (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) also won a in a time of 1:38.73.
Both Calvin teams are back in action next Saturday, traveling to Alma for a 1 p.m. dual meet.
