Calvin Sending Nine To NCAA III Indoor Track & Field Championships

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams will be sending nine individuals - one from the men’s team and eight from the women’s team - the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships this Friday and Saturday at Rose-Hulman Institue in Terre Haute, IN.
Competing for the Calvin men will be senior Jed Christiansen (Greenville, PA/Greenville HS) who will run in the 5,000 meters. Christiansen is seeded second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 14:31.25.
On the women’s side, Calvin will be sending seniors Lauren Bergstrom (Rochester, MN/Century HS), Sarah Wittingen (East Grand Rapids HS), Kristen Van Sickel (Pittsburgh, PA/Trinity Christian HS) and Julie Bratt (Lynden, WA/Lynden Christian HS) and juniors Heather Koning (Kalamazoo Christian HS), and Elizabeth Smit (Kirkland, WA/Bellevue Christian HS), junior Nicole Farr (Warrenville, IL/Warrenville South HS) and sophomore Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Eastern Christian HS).
Bergstrom will run in the mile run where she is seeded fifth (4:56.81). She will also run on Calvin’s distance medley relay which is seeded seventh with a time of 11:57.59.
In addition to Bergstrom, the distance medley relay consists of Koning, Smit and Farr.
Calvin’s 4x400 meter relay team of Boerner, Koning, Van Sickel and Wittingen is seeded 10th with a time of 3:57.67.
Bratt will compete in the triple jump where she is seeded 12th (38-1 1/2).
This weekend will mark the first time Calvin will send members of its track and field teams to the indoor national meet.
