Calvin Men’s Swimming and Diving Takes Second at Triangular With ONU and Albion

The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team took second place at a triangular with Ohio Northern and Albion this weekend inside Calvin’s Venema Aquatic Center. The Knights recorded a team score of 988 points with Ohio Northern winning with 1067.5 points. Albion was third with 811.5 points.
First place performances from Calvin on Saturday included:
*Freshman Brett Stoughton (Centerville, IN/Centerville HS) in the 100 butterfly (52.59).
*Sophomore Aaron Venema (Grand Haven/Grand Haven HS) in the 200 freestyle (1:45.32) and 1,650 freestyle (16:47.28).
*Sophomore Johnson Cochran (Mount Vernon, OH/Mount Vernon HS) in the 100 breaststroke (58.03) and 200 breaststroke (2:10.30).
*Senior Andrew Mitchell (Iron Mountain/Kingsford HS) in the 100 backstroke (53.96).
*Calvin’s 200 medley relay team of Stoughton, Cochran, senior Peter Johnson (Oak Forest, IL/Home Schooled) and freshman Eli Holstege (Kewsick, VA/Covenant HS) took first place in a time of 1:36.60 while its 800 freestyle relay team of sophomore Mitch Schroder (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), Stoughton, Venema and Mitchell took first place in a time of 7:08.31.
Calvin is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo in a dual meet at 1 p.m. at the Venema Aquatic Center.
