Calvin Men’s Golf Takes First Place at MIAA Jamboree #3 - Takes Sole Possession of MIAA Overall Lead

MIAA Jamboree #3 Men's Golf Results

BATTLE CREEK - The Calvin men’s golf team is in sole possession of first place of the MIAA overall standings after recording a first place team score of 305 strokes Wednesday afternoon at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Olivet at the Bedford Valley Country Club.

The team score pushes Calvin into a two-stroke lead in the overall MIAA standings over Trine University. Trine placed second in Wednesday’s competition with a score of 307.

Senior Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) led the way for Calvin with a score of 71 that was good for first place medalist honors. The round also keeps Kuiper - the defending MIAA season medalist - in first place in the MIAA season individual standings as he holds a three-round average of 72.7 strokes-per-round.

Senior Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) followed Kuiper with a round of 77 that tied him for eighth place individually on Wednesday. Rounding out Calvin’s scorers on Wednesday were junior Mark Allen (Oconomowoc, WI/Lake Country Lutheran HS) with a 78, sophomores James VanNoord (Troy/Troy Athens HS) with a 79 and sophomore Michael Wierenga (Caledonia/South Christian HS) with an 80.

Calvin is back in action on Saturday at an MIAA Jamboree hosted by Trine University at the Zollner Golf Club.
