Calvin Men’s Golf Fifth at MIAA Tournament - Remains Fifth in Overall League Standings

ANGOLA, IN – The Calvin men’s golf team tied for fifth place at an MIAA outing hosted by Trine University Saturday afternoon at the Zollner Golf Club.
Calvin tied for fifth place with Alma with a score of 309 strokes, two strokes behind fourth place Albion. Host Trine took first place with a team score of 291 strokes with Hope close behind at 292 and Olivet third at 293.
Olivet remains in first place in the overall team standings with Hope second and Trine third.
Calvin’s top finisher was sophomore Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 76 that was good for a tie for 14th place. Other finishers for the Knights included junior Jon Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and sophomore Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with rounds of 77, junior Aaron Hargett (Lakewood/Lakewood Lake Odessa HS) with a 79 and sophomore Matt Marks (Byron Center/South Christian HS) with an 83.
Hendriksma is currently 16th in the MIAA individual season standings with an average of 77.8 strokes-per-round while Hargett is 18th at 78.0 strokes-per-round.
Steve Strock of Hope was the medalist on Saturday with a course record score of 68.
Calvin is back in action Monday afternoon when it competes at an MIAA outing hosted by Hope at the Wuskowhan Player’s Club.
