Calvin Men’s Golf Fifth at MIAA Jamboree #1

BATTLE CREEK - Calvin participated in the first MIAA jamboree of the year on Thursday and came away with a fifth place team score of 306 strokes. The jamboree took place at the Bedford Valley Country Club with Olivet serving as host. Olivet used home course advantage to its advantage with a sizzling team score of 289 strokes, finishing six strokes ahead of Trine University and 14 strokes ahead of third place Hope. Adrian was fourth at 305 with Calvin just a stroke behind in fifth.
Calvin’s top individual golfer on Thursday was senior Jess Hendriksma (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) with a round of 75 that left him tied for 11th place. Senior Eric Doezema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) was close behind with a 76 (tied for 14th) while sophomore Dave Sarkipato (Kalamazoo/Kalamazoo Christian HS) had a 77, sophomore Ben Kuiper (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) a 78 and freshman David Veen (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) a 78. Junior Jake DeBoer (Byron Center/South Christian HS) also had a round of 78 while competing individually.
Justin Ardelean of Olivet was the tournament medalist with a round of 69. Three other golfers had rounds of 71.
Calvin is back in action on September 15 when it competes at an MIAA jamboree hosted by Albion at the Medalist Golf Club.
