Calvin Lands Three on on USTFCCA All-Academic Men’s Team

NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has announced the menís 2010 Division III All-Academic Track & Field team. A total of 202 student-athletes representing 74 institutions compose the group. Calvinís Jed Christiansen, Aaron Goodman and Ben Van Wyk have all been selected to the honor list.

To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.30 and have met either the NCAA Division III Indoor or Outdoor automatic or provisional qualifying standard in their respective event.

Christiansen (Greenville, PA/Greenville HS) competed indoors for the Calvin menís track and field team this past winter, qualifying for the NCAA III Indoor Track and Field Championships in the 5,000 meters. At the NCAA III Championships, Christiansen placed 10th in the 5,000 meters. Christiansen is receiving the award for the third straight year. Christiansen was graduated from Calvin this past May.

Goodman (Milwaukee, WI/Milwaukee Lutheran HS) qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. At the NCAA III Championships, Goodman placed 12th in the event. Goodman is receiving the award for the second straight year. Goodman was graduated from Calvin this past May.

VanWyk (Sussex, NJ/High Point HS) also qualified for the NCAA III Outdoor Track and Field championships in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. At the national meet, he placed 11th in the event. VanWyk is being so honored for the first time. VanWyk will be a senior at Calvin College this fall.

The Calvin men’s track and field team was led by first-year head coach Bret Otte this season.
