Calvin Lands 143 on MIAA Academic Honor Roll - 19 Named to Honor Roll For Fourth Straight Year
Thursday, July 15, 2010
The 2009-10 Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) Academic Honor Roll has been announced by Commissioner David Neilson and 143 Calvin scholar-athletes have been named to the list.
The honor roll recognizes scholar-athletes who achieve a minimum 3.5 grade-point average (on a 4.0 scale) for the entire 2009-10 academic year. A student needed to have won a varsity letter in a sport to be eligible. The MIAA Academic Honor Roll program was initiated in 1990 to recognize students at MIAA member colleges who excel both in athletics and in the classroom. This year’s Honor Roll includes several students who achieved the distinction four consecutive years. Of the students, 19 are from Calvin.
The 19 Calvin scholar-athletes named to the MIAA Academic Honor Roll for a fourth straight year are seniors Kelley Barr (Dover, DE/swimming & diving), Allison Boender (Grandville, Mich./soccer), Rachel DeGroot (Lombard, IL/tennis), Rachel DeYoung (Hudsonville, Mich./volleyball), Krista Johnson (Cincinnati, OH/soccer), Carla Lindemulder (Lansing, IL/track & field), Todd Mitchell (Burnsville, MN/cross country & track & field), Laura Price (Warren, PA/swimming & diving), Andrew Rescorla (Zionsville, IN/tennis), Caleb Rottman (Fargo, ND/track & field), Tyler Smies (Sheboygan, WI/golf), Greg Snapper (Madison, WI/soccer), Rachel Strikwerda (Holland, Mich./tennis), Mary Tolsma (Hawthorne, NJ/cross country & track & field), Kurt VanAllsburg (Grand Rapids, Mich./swimming & diving), Brook Van Eck (Lowell, Mich./basketball), Elizabeth Veldkamp (Grand Rapids, Mich./swimming & diving), Natalie Veurink (Spring Lake, Mich./soccer) and Gillian Wood (Wheaton, IL/swimming & diving).
