The MIAA Commissioner’s Cup award is based on the cumulative performance of each member school in the league’s 18 sports for men and women. The final standings are determined on the basis of each college’s best standings in eight of nine sports for men and eight of nine sports for women. The tabulation through the winter season is based on 5-of-6 sports for men and 5-of-6 sports for women. The Commisioner’s Cup Award has been presented since 1934-35. Hope has won the award 32 times, followed by Albion with 14, Kalamazoo 13, Calvin 9 and Alma 5.

During the year, Calvin led all MIAA schools in league titles with nine. Capturing MIAA regular season crowns from Calvin were the men’s and women’s soccer teams, men’s and women’s cross country teams, men’s basketball team, women’s swimming and diving team, women’s tennis team and men’s and women’s track and field teams.
