Calvin Athletes Named to All-MIAA Track & Field Teams

The All-MIAA menís and womenís track and field teams have been announced and five members of the Calvin menís team have been so honored while nine members of the Calvin womenís team have been named All-MIAA selections.

Named to the All-MIAA menís team from Calvin are juniors Carson Sterchi, Dan Kerr and Nick Kramer, sophomore Greg Whittle and freshman Ryan Huffman.

Named to the All-MIAA womenís team from Calvin are seniors Rachel Boerner, Gretchen Braymer, Sarah Reasoner and Samantha Westveer, juniors Kaitlin Diemer, Jodi Hoekstra and Kelly Peterson, sophomore Carissa Verkaik and freshman Julie Busscher.

MEN’S HONOREES

*Carson Sterchi (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake Central HS) - Sterchi is making his second straight appearance on the All-MIAA men’s team. At the MIAA Field Day last week, Sterchi captured her second consecutive league title in the 800 meters, winning with a time of 1:56.25.

*Dan Kerr (Petoskey/Petoskey HS)—Kerr is making his first appearance on the All-MIAA men’s team. At the MIAA Field Day, Kerr captured the league title in the 10,000 meters with a time of 31:56.78.

*Nick Kramer (Dyer, IN/Illiana Christian HS) - Kramer is making his second straight appearance on the All-MIAA men’s team. At the MIAA Field Day, Kramer was a double winner, taking home league titles in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (9:08.98) and 5,000 meters (15:13.01). Kramer is two-time MIAA champion in the steeplechase.

*Greg Whittle (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg HS) - Whittle is making his first appearance on the All-MIAA men’s team. At the MIAA Field Day, he captured the league title in the 1,500 meter (4:01.50) while also placing fifth in the 5,000 meters (15:18.63).

*Ryan Huffman (Maumee, OH/Kenston HS) - Huffman is receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time in track and field. At the MIAA Field Day, he captured the league title in the long jump (22-4 1/4) while also placing fourth in the 400 meters (50.45).

WOMEN’S HONOREES

*Rachel Boerner (Bergenfield, NJ/Hillcrest Lutheran Academy) - Boerner is making her third appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she captured the 400 meter (open) title for the second straight year, winning with a time of 57.24. She also placed sixth in the 100 meters and third in the 400 meter hurdles.

*Gretchen Braymer (Erie, PA/Collegiate Academy) - Braymer is making her second appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she was the league champion in the 5,000 meters (18:34.08) while also placing second in the steeplechase.

*Sarah Reasoner (Cambridge, MN/Cambridge-Isanti HS) - Reasoner is making her third appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she captured her third straight league title in the shot put, doing so with an MIAA record throw of 47-2 1/2. She also claimed her second league title in the discus, winning with a throw of 143-9.

*Samantha Westveer (Kentwood/East Kentwood HS) - Westveer is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she claimed the league title in the 10,000 meters (37:06.60).

*Kaitlin Diemer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) - Diemer is making her second appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she picked up a league title in the 1,500 meters (4:40.89) while also placing third in the 800 meters.

*Jodi Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS) - Hoekstra is making her second appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she was the league champion in the 3,000 meter steeplechase (10:52.61) while also placing second in the 5,000 meters.

*Kelly Peterson (Ramsey, MN/Anoka HS) - Peterson is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she was the league champion in the triple jump (35-11 1/4). She also placed fourth in the long jump.

*Carrisa Verkaik (Holland/Holland Christian HS) - Verkaik is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA women’s track and field team. At the MIAA Field Day, she was the league champion in the high jump (5-4 1/4) and also placed seventh in the 200 meters.

*Julie Busscher (Hudsonville/Unity Christian HS) - Busscher is making her first appearance on the All-MIAA team. At the MIAA Field Day, she captured a league title in the 200 meters (26.55) while also placing second in the 100 meters (12.66).
