ROYAL OAK – The Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association has named Calvin College forward Brook Van Eck its first recipient of the league’s Player of the Week award in women’s basketball for the new season.

Van Eck, a junior from Lowell (Lowell HS), didn’t miss a shot in the Knights’ 64-49 season-opening win over Madonna. Van Eck connected on all eight of her shots from the field and was 3-of-3 from the foul line in scoring a career-high 20 points, while playing just 23 minutes. She also grabbed four rebounds and added four steals.

Calvin returns to action on Friday when it faces Elmhurst University in the first round of the Wisconsin Lutheran Dunn’s Sporting Goods Tip-Off Tournament. Friday’s game against the Blue Jays is set to begin at 6:00 p.m. (EST).
