Two members of the MIAA Champion Calvin women’s track and field team have received MIAA MVP honors. For the second consecutive year, Calvin junior Sarah Reasoner has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Field Event Performer. Meanwhile, Calvin junior Rachel Boerner has been named the MIAA’s Most Valuable Runner.

A native of Cambridge, Minnesota, Reasoner (Cambridge-Isanti HS) captured the MIAA title in the shot put last weekend at the MIAA Field Day, winning the league title in the event for the second straight year. At the MIAA jamboree earlier this spring, Reasoner took first place in both the shot put and discus.

Boerner is from Bergenfield, New Jersey. She is a graduate of Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. At the MIAA Field Day, Boerner captured the league title in the 400 meters and took second in the 400 meter hurdles and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles. At the MIAA jamboree, Boerner took first place in the 100 meter dash and 400 meter hurdles.

In addition, Reasoner and Boerner were both named to the All-MIAA for a second straight year. Also named to the All-MIAA team from Calvin were seniors Jessica Koster (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS), Elizabeth Smit (Kirkland, WA/Bellevue Christian HS), Katie Roelofs (Grand Rapids/Springfield HS) and Joy Leach (Charlottsville, VA/Charlottsville HS), junior Leigha Oberle (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS) and Kim Wigboldy (Chandler, AZ/Valley Christian HS) and sophomores Kaitlin Diemer (Caledonia/South Christian HS), Jordan Gabrielese (Allendale/Unity Christian HS) and Jodie Hoekstra (Homer Glen, IL/Chicago Christian HS).

Koster and Smit are receiving All-MIAA honors for the third straight year while Wigboldy, Oberle and Leach are being so honored for the second time. Roelofs, Diemer, Gabrielse and Hoekstra are receiving All-MIAA honors for the first time.

On the men’s side, Calvin had eight members named to the All-MIAA team. Named to the All-MIAA team for the third time were senior Kelby McClelland (Mercer, PA/Mercer Area HS) and junior Alex Wrobel (Arden Hills, MN/Mounds View HS) while senior Joel Klingenberg (Hamilton, ON/Bradenton Christian HS) was named to the All-MIAA team for a second time. Both Calvin track and field teams wrapped up outright MIAA titles this past weekend at the MIAA Field Day hosted by Alma College with the Calvin men posting a first place score of 254 points and the Calvin women posting a first place team score of 282.5 points.
