Baseball Team Tops Grinnell in Rubber Match in Vero Beach

VERO BEACH, FL - The Calvin baseball team upped its season record to 3-4 with a 7-1 victory over Grinnell College Tuesday morning.

Sophomore Brett Cavanaugh (Western Michigan Christian HS) led the way for the Knights with six shutout innings in his first start of the season. Junior Cody Batchelor (Durango, CO) then came on in relief to pitch the final three frames to preserve the win. Junior Andrew Bosma (Holland Christian HS) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Junior Matt Dodrill (Murfreesboro, TN) also went 2-for-3 while sophomore Tyler Berger (Grand Rapids Christian HS) went 2-for-4 with a single and a double.

Calvin will seek to reach the .500 mark in a single nine-inning game Wednesday afternoon against the University of Chicago at noon. The game will mark the final contest of Calvin’s spring break trip to Florida.
