Baseball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader at Albion

ALBION - Calvin dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Albion on Wednesday, falling by scores of 3-0 and 4-3.
In game one, each team recorded six hits but the Britons were able to score once in the first and twice in the fourth to claim the win. Calvin loaded the bases in the second inning with one out but could not score as the Knights hit into a double-play. Calvin later had two runners aboard in the third and fourth but again could not score.
Sophomore Cory Laster (Ludington HS) got the start for Calvin and took the loss to fall to 1-4 on the year. Calvin had six players gain a hit including a double by sophomore Kyle Spoelma (Kentwood/South Christian HS).
In game two, Albion snapped a 2-2 tie with two runs in the bottom of the fourth to gain the advantage.
Calvin (11-22 overall) grabbed a 2-0 lead with a pair of runs in the top of the second inning as as freshman Austin Evenhouse (Highland, IN/Illiana Christian HS) doubled home a run and freshman Ben Wohl (Canton/Plymouth HS) singled home another. Albion (15-19) came back with single runs in the bottom of the second and third however to tie the game and then scored twice in the fourth to take a 4-2 lead.
Calvin came back with a run in the top of the sixth on an RBI groundout by Evenhouse. In the top of the seventh, Calvin had the tying run on second base but again, could not bring a crucial run home.
Freshman Tom Bouwkamp (Pella, IA/Pella Christian HS) took the loss for Calvin in relief of sophomore starter Jeff Victor (Holland/Holland Christian HS). Junior Mike Fuller (Sylvania, OH/Southview HS) had a pair of hits for Calvin including a double.
The two teams are back in action on Friday with a doubleheader at Calvin scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
