Women’s Basketball Improves to 4-0 With Win at Kalamazoo

KALAMAZOO—Calvin improved to 4-0 on the season and senior Marcia Harris (Grand Rapids Christian High School) moved into second place on the all-time Calvin scoring list Tuesday evening as the Knights recorded an 81-64 victory at Kalamazoo College in the league opener for both teams.
Harris scored 18 points to boost her career scoring total to 1,335 points, moving past 1999 Calvin graduate Kerry Walters-Dykstra for second place on the all-time Calvin list.

Calvin center Marcia Harris, a senior from Grand Rapids (GR Christian HS), has been named the MIAA Player of the Week in women’s basketball after she scored 57 points in two games in leading the Knights to the championship of the Wisconsin Lutheran Tip-Off Tournament.

SIOUX CENTER, IA – Calvin captured the Cob Cup at the Dordt College Clash in the Corn Tournament. The Knights closed out the tournament with a 3-0 record, defeating the University of Wyoming on Saturday afternoon 6-3. Calvin is now 10-4-1 overall.

GRAND RAPIDS – Caleb Veldhouse weaved his way through the Calvin record books in Saturday’s 71-61 win over Spring Arbor, scoring a game-high 24 points to surpass Duane Rosendahl as the Knights’ 10th all-time leading scorer with 1,343 points.

The Calvin women’s cross country team took second at the NCAA III Championships earlier today, posting a team score of 237 points. Top-ranked Middlebury won the crown with 179 points.
The Calvin men’s cross country team took fifth as a team with a cumulative score of 239 points. Top-ranked Cortland State won the national title with 80 points.

GRAND RAPIDS – Calvin hasn’t called Grand Rapids Christian High School its home since the 1964-65 season, just one year before the Knights migrated to the Calvin Fieldhouse.
Forty-four years later, they returned back to Grand Rapids Christian – their first time at the Plymouth campus – and routed Grace Bible College 82-49 in their season opener at the Quest Center, Calvin’s interim court until the unveiling of the newly constructed Van Noord Arena on Jan. 7.

MILWAUKEE, WI—Calvin picked up a hard-fought 65-58 victory in a first round game of the Wisconsin-Lutheran Tip Off Tournament Friday night. Calvin (2-0) used a come-from-behind effort to gain the win as Elmhurst (0-1) took a 26-22 halftime lead and then built a 45-38 lead with just 9:48 left to play. Calvin responded with a 13-2 scoring run over the next three-and-a-half minutes to take a lead it would never relinquish.
Calvin was led by senior center Marcia Harris who pumped in a career-high 35 points including 25 in the second half.

SIOUX CENTER, IA—In a meeting of regionally-ranked teams, the visiting Knights of Calvin defeated the Dordt College Blades 5-2 in front of nearly 900 fans at the Vernon Arena. Ranked third in the ACHA Division III North Region, Calvin (8-4-1) used a come-from-behind effort to defeat Dordt, ranked second in the ACHA Division III Pacific Division.
