Brook Van Eck Nearing 500 Rebound Mark After Performance in Loss at Hope Wednesday

Basketball at Calvin has always been the trademark sport, the arena where bragging rights are won and lost and where maroon and gold are the only colors seen in the crowd.  With that kind of tradition, it is indeed an honor to be considered a leader of one of Calvin’s basketball teams.  This year that player would have to be Brook Van Eck, a senior post player who plays the game with heart every time she steps on the court.

Van Eck, a native of Lowell Michigan, helps lead a very young team this season currently ranked in the top 15 in the country. A year ago, she was named to the All-MIAA first team and was a two-time MIAA Player of the Week. Earlier this year, she was named the Most Valuable Player of the Wilmington Tip-Off Tournament and later earned a spot on the Olivet Thanksgiving Classic All-tournament team.

Calvin continued its hot streak in 2010 conference play Saturday afternoon with a 68-61 victory against the Adrian Bulldogs at Van Noord Arena.

The Knights led by as many as 21 points early on in the second half but a 14-0 Adrian run sparked a furious comeback that had the Bulldogs within six with only minutes to play.  This would prove to be too little too late though for Adrian as the Knights closed the game out and won their fourth MIAA game this season to remain undefeated in conference play. Calvin continues to hold a share of first place with Albion in the league standings as the Britons also improved to 4-0 in league play with an 81-53 win at Alma Saturday.
