Women’s Tennis Defeated by Nationally-Ranked Grand Valley

KENTWOOD—The Calvin women’s tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to Grand Valley State University Thursday afternoon at the Gainey Courts. The Knights are now 9-6 overall. Grand Valley came into the match ranked 27th nationally in the most recent Division II ITA Top-25 rankings.

ANGOLA, IN—The Calvin baseball team took both ends of a doubleheader at Trine University Thursday afternoon, winning by scores of 1-0 and 7-2. The Knights are now 13-11 overall and 10-4 in the MIAA standings.

KENTWOOD—The Calvin softball team dropped a pair of games to visiting Adrian Wednesday afternoon at Gainey Field, falling by scores of 3-2 and 11-3. Wednesday’s doubleheader was originally scheduled for April 7 but was rescheduled twice because of weather conditions.

GRAND RAPIDS—The Calvin women’s tennis team stretched its win streak to three and in the process handed head coach Jerry Bergsma his 100th collegiate victory at the helm of the Knights. Now in his ninth year as head coach of the Calvin women’s tennis team. Bergsma is now 100-61 at the helm of the Knights after a 7-2 victory over Kalamazoo Tuesday afternoon inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center.

Softball Doubleheader With Adrian Postponed Until Wednesday - April 15

Today’s scheduled Adrian at Calvin softball doubleheader has been postponed until Wednesday, April 15. The change was made because of the threat of rain in Grand Rapids Monday afternoon and the distance Adrian must drive for the contests.

Wednesday’s twinbill is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. at Calvin’s Gainey Field.

Calvin Track and Field Teams Post First Place Performances at MIAA Jamboree

ADRIAN – Pressed with a steep challenge by rival Hope, the Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams dug down to deliver first place performances at the MIAA Jamboree hosted by Adrian College on Saturday. The Calvin women took first place with 1,016 points, 70.5 points ahead of Hope. On the men’s side, Calvin edged Hope by just 6.5 points, winning with a team total of 856 points with Hope second with 849.50 points.

ADRIAN – Calvin upped its overall record to 8-6 and its MIAA dual match slate to 4-1 with a 9-0 win at Adrian on Saturday afternoon. The Knights are back in action on Tuesday when they host a conference dual meet against Kalamazoo at 4:00 p.m. at the Gainey Courts.

Baseball Splits Saturday Games at Alma

ALMA – For the second consecutive day, Calvin split a doubleheader with Alma. On Saturday, the Knights traveled up to Alma’s Klenk Park and dropped the opener 11-6 before coming back to win game two 10-5. The split came on the heels of a doubleheader split just the day before in Grand Rapids. The Knights are currently in third place in the MIAA standings with an 8-4 conference record.

Men’s Tennis Splits on First Day at GLCA

GREENCASTLE, IN—The Calvin men’s tennis team split a pair of matches on the first day of competition at the GLCA Tournament hosted by DePauw University Friday afternoon, defeating Oberlin 5-0 and then falling to 18th-ranked DePauw 5-2. The Knight are now 12-3 on the year and will play two additional matches at the two-day tournament on Saturday.
