Women’s Basketball Claims 95-68 Win at Saint Mary’s

NOTRE DAME, IN – The Calvin women’s basketball team has suddenly found a new offensive gear. For the second consecutive game, the Knights hit the 90-point plateau, this time in a 95-68 victory at Saint Mary’s College Wednesday night. The victory came on the heels of a 91-31 win over Alma on Saturday. The win lifts Calvin’s overall record to 9-5 and its conference mark to 4-2 as the Knights near the mid-point of the league schedule. Calvin currently sits in a tie for third place with Kalamazoo in the league standings with the Hornets slated to come to Calvin on Saturday for a 3 p.m. tilt.

Men’s Basketball Moves Into Share of of MIAA Lead With 78-54 Win Over Adrian

The Calvin men’s basketball team hosted the Bulldogs of Adrian on Wednesday evening, looking to rebound from a loss to Hope last Saturday. The Knights came in at 9-4 and 1-1 in conference, while Adrian was 4-9 overall and 0-2 in the MIAA.With a dominating performance at Van Noord Arena, Calvin returned to the winning track with a 78-54 victory over Adrian. With Albion defeating Hope on Wednesday, Calvin moves into a four-way tie for first place in the MIAA standings with Albion, Hope and Trine. The Knights return to action on Saturday when they travel to Kalamazoo to face the Hornets. Saturday’s contest is scheduled to tipoff at 3 p.m.

Knights to Remember Event Planned for February 8 to Honor National Championship Volleyball Team

A special program to honor Calvin’s 2013 NCAA III Volleyball champions will take place on Saturday, February 8 inside Van Noord Arena. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a desert reception followed by the main event program at 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend with ticket prices listed as $10.00 for adults, $6.00 for students and individuals ages 5-18. Students will be allowed to come to the event FREE OF CHARGE in the upper bowl at 7:30 p.m. when the main program begins. Calvin Women’s Swimming and Diving Takes First Place at Own Triangular

The Calvin women’s swimming and diving team took first place at a triangular that included Albion and Ohio Northern this weekend. Over the course of the two-day meet, Calvin tallied a first place total of 1059.5 points with Albion second with 929 points and Ohio Northern third at 893.5. Calvin is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo in a dual meet at 1 p.m. at the Venema Aquatic Center.

The Calvin men’s swimming and diving team took second place at a triangular with Ohio Northern and Albion this weekend inside Calvin’s Venema Aquatic Center. The Knights recorded a team score of 988 points with Ohio Northern winning with 1067.5 points. Albion was third with 811.5 points. Calvin is back in action next Saturday when it hosts Kalamazoo in a dual meet at 1 p.m. at the Venema Aquatic Center.

Calvin Falls to Hope 71-63 in 186th Edition of The Rivalry

The Calvin men’s basketball team hosted the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College for the 186th edition of The Rivalry on Saturday afternoon. The Knights entered with a 9-3 record while Hope was 7-5. Both teams were 1-0 in conference play. Behind a strong three-point attack, Hope prevailed Saturday afternoon 71-63. Brink led Calvin with 22 points while Kruis added 15. For Hope, Eidson led all scorers with 23, hitting 6-of-7 from three point range, while VanArendonk had 14 points and 10 rebounds. The loss drops the Knights to 9-4 and 1-1 in league play while Hope improves to 8-5 and 2-0 in the MIAA. Calvin returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts the Bulldogs of Adrian for another conference match-up. Wednesday’s contest at Van Noord Arena is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.

Women’s Basketball Defeats Alma 91-31

The Knights returned to action after a 77-73 loss at Olivet on Saturday, with a home conference game against the Scots of Alma.  Calvin got back on the winning track, defeating Alma 91-31 to improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in the MIAA. In the game the Knights were led by the duo of Jeanna Sybesma (Dalhart, TX/Dalhart HS) and Kirsten Tripp with 12 points each Tripp added three steals and Sybesma tacked on seven rebounds. Freshman Anna Timmer (Caledonia/South Christian HS) also contributed 11 points to the Knights record breaking victory. The Knights return to action on January 15 next Wednesday at St. Mary’s.

Swimming and Diving Teams Open Triangular Against Albion and ONU

Through one day of competition at a triangular including Ohio Northern and Albion, the Calvin women’s team is in first place with a total of 312.5 points while the Calvin men are in second in the men’s standings with 274 points. Ohio Northern is second in the women’s standings (262.5) followed by Albion in third (259). Ohio Northern leads the men’s standings (338.5) wit Albion third (230.5). The triangular continues with competition Saturday morning at 10 a.m. and late Saturday afternoon at 5 p.m.

Calvin Track and Field Teams Open Indoor Campaigns Against Aquinas

The Calvin men’s and women’s track and field teams opened their indoor campaigns on Friday night inside the Huizenga Tennis and Track Center in dual meets against Aquinas. Aquinas defeated Calvin in both competitions, defeating Calvin 94-44 on the men’s side and 72-56 on the women’s side. Both teams will now prepare to compete at the Grand Valley State Mike Lints Open next Friday.

Men’s Hoops Opens Conference Slate With 90-82 Road Win at Alma

The Calvin men’s basketball team began MIAA play on Thursday evening, traveling to Alma to face the Scots. The Knights had not lost to Alma since 1999, and in 17 MIAA openers, head coach Kevin Vande Streek was 16-1 coming into Thursday night’s matchup. Calvin kept its winning ways going in league openers by defeating the host Scots 90-82. Calvin improves to 9-3 overall and 1-0 in the MIAA while the Scots fall to 1-11 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Knights have now won 31 straight against Alma. Calvin now looks forward to Saturday, when it will renew its rivalry with the Flying Dutchmen of Hope College. Saturday’s contest is scheduled to start at 3 p.m.
