Over the last three years, the Calvin women’s volleyball team has put together the most impressive stretch in program history. During that time, the Knights have compiled an overall won-loss record of 98-8 that includes a national title in 2010, a national runner-up finish in 2012 and three consecutive MIAA regular season crowns. Can the Knights keep the momentum going? Head coach Amber Warners thinks they can. The senior class is headlined by soon-to-be four-year starting setter Megan Rietema (Grand Rapids/Grand Rapids Christian HS). At 6-2, Rietema possesses height and an impressive wingspan up front at the net that allows her not only to be an offensive threat, but also a defensive weapon. A two-time AVCA Division III All-American including a first team choice last year, Rietema averaged 10.43 assists per set last year while averaging just under one block per set. A three-time first team All-MIAA selection, she also compiled an attack percentage of .325 and averaged 2.17 digs-per-set. Rietema spent the offseason playing overseas with an AVCA All-America team in Costa Rica and is primed for a big senior year.

Last month, Rietema had the opportunity to spend a week in Costa Rica with a team of AVCA Division II and Division III All-Americans playing top-level international competition while also giving clinics to age-group children and also touring the country. Rietema put together a journal of her week-long stay in Costa Rica which can be read by clicking the headline at the top of this story. A year ago, Rietema was named a first team AVCA Division III All-American and helped Calvin reach the NCAA III Championship finals against St. Thomas.
